We re-located our funny baby clothes business to quaint, historic Mooresville, North Carolina, because it’s quiet, pleasant and lovely. It’s a good thing we didn’t look at this first page of Mooresville’s official town photo gallery online, because that presents quite a different picture. I’m not sure where all the riot suppression is happening in town. Looks fun!

We make funny baby clothes to help take some of the stress out of being a new parent, but we always strived create something truly important. For instance, if we were to reduce birthing pain without drugs, hypnosis or fancy breathing. I guess we’ll have to look elswhere to change the world as this photo clearly shows that painless birthing has been acheived. And apparently it’s an outpatient proceedure to boot.

Wry Baby Kelly here, doing a blog hijack to get a few compliments in for the Pops out there.  I know Father’s day was last Sunday. You probably had a fine 15 minutes of glory to relish around in, and hopefully you took advantage of the situation and finagled yourself some coffee in bed, or some quality “you” time. But chances are, your Sunday went pretty much as usual with the exception of a pull-out-the-stops breakfast, and by nightfall, you might have even achieved something on the big old honey-do list. That’s about what happened at our house. I’ll just say it – Dad’s get robbed for recognition. By the time Father’s Day rolls around, the Mother’s day hub-bub has pretty much taken the steam out of things. And because school is out for summer, the little kiddles don’t come home with any special hand art projects. But hopefully Dads, you know exactly how important you are in every moment. You are needed more than you know. You are appreciated far more than we show. You are the role model, the teammate and the rock. Thanks for making it fun!

A Dad Moment

Like Father like son. My Boy and I goof it up outside Frye’s Roller Rink in North Carolina. It’s our firm belief that you CANNOT roller skate, at a rink, without tube socks, wrist bands and other Seventies regalia. Apparently, no one felt like-wise, but they let us stay.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, our company motto, Raise Funny People® is also our parenting philosophy. And just because we trademarked the term doesn’t mean we gots dibs on fun. Whoever you are, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, just using a little imagination can turn even the most mundane tasks into a fun family adventure.

Kelly bought me a Flip video camera and we use the heck out of it. It’s small, it’s easy and for both those reasons it’s almost always on my person. We just happen to all be on a little breather with friends at Lake Chelan, WA., and on a quick stop for cheddar cheese, Atticus and I made this fun impromptu supermarket video poking fun at our hosts. Illustrating that you really can have fun doing just about anything if you put your mind to it.

Mysterio again takes up the posting slack as Kelly and I come to another marker in our re-branding of our historic downtown in Mooresville, NC. The past three months have been absolutely crazy  busy for us as we have also been preparing production of a whole slew of fun Wry Baby products for a big Summer launch in NY.

Did you get your invite?

After a speaking at a big press event in the afternoon, Kelly and I will be guest speakers as the annual Downtown Banquet celebrating Downtown Mooresvilles participation in the national Main Street Town program. We’ll be unveiling our new branding campaign at this fancy gala, so if you have $25 (yes, you’ll PAY to hear me go on and on and on and on) and some free time June 9th, come see what what’s going on in our fun town. After all, there’s always something happening in Downtown Mooresville!

We just launched our first iPhone app. We’re getting lots of new stuff ready to launch at the big New York International Gift Fair this August. We’re making a smart phone friendly version of wrybaby.com. We’re putting the finishing touches on the funnest new things for our friends at Cost Plus World Market. We’re signed up for Baseball and Soccer while getting ready for our son’s big End of Grade testing while continuing restoration of our 103 year old home. So what do we do for fun?

We’re branding our town, of course! Kelly and I have extensive advertising backrounds from our 15 years in San Francisco and our Downtown Commission asked our help to re-brand Mooresville, North Carolina’s historic downtown area. How could we say no!? We’re getting ready for a big launch in June, so stay tuned for the grand unvieling of the biggest, most un-baby-related thing Wry Baby has ever made…a whole town!

One of my favoritest ever blogs is Lovely Package. It’s a parade of the most beautiful packaging from around the world. Well, Lovely Package featured Mysterio Predicts’ rustic package last week! Mysterio has far been one of my favorite products to create. While the concept is super fun and unique (Mysterio predicts your child’s FUTURE on a t-shirt), my favorite part was making the POP display. It’s a handmade, stained pine crate from a family operation, Poole & Sons in Emmett, Idaho. I love contacting a vendor and telling them I want something really rough and messed up. That the printing should be bad, but legible and if some of the boxes come kind of broken, that’s okay. Any art-types in the crowd can testify that the hardest thing to make is something intentionally bad and  I’m glad Mysterio’s packaging ended up bad enough to make it onto Lovely Package. We’re truly honored!
