Small petss, that is. Wry Baby HQ is located in the small, historic Downtown district of Mooresville, NC, as are many other small mom-and-pop businesses. We often get together to collaborate and share ideas to help each other grow and recently a neat thing happened out of that kind of get-together.

The owner of Window Wear Design, designers and fabricators of custom window treatments, started making pet clothes from her old curtain sample remnants. She calls them Pet Raggs. We happened to have a bunch of old Best In Show Snapsuits™ that we found hiding in our warehouse and thought maybe she could use ‘em in some way. Boy did she.

The Best In Show Pet Raggs come in a TON of different trimmings and they’re only $28 ea.! Call Linda at 704-664-0881 if you’re interested in one as a gift (they’re currently only available in-store on Main Street) and Linda will get you all taken care of.

Okay, so I’m in the Wry Baby booth at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas when a vision in red and white comes strolling by. We made eye contact and instantly fell about the place laughing. Here’s the weirdest part: His name is Dave, too! Turns out Red-Suit-Dave is a Las Vegas comedian/magician who was looking for products to incorporate into his kid=-friendly act. If you need a really funny magician for your party, or someone to blend into your fun baby gift booth at a trade show, get in touch with Red-Suit-Dave at magicandcomedy.com

We were getting an email ready to send to all our fun stores next week telling them what’s heading their way. One of the little graphics turned out so fun we thought we’d share. :-) We love animated gifs. Have a good weekend!

We’re preparing for our big New York International Gift Fair and this graphic explains all: Why we haven’t been blogging or twittering much, Why we haven’t been playing properly with our playmates, why my drawing hand hurts so bad, why our complexions are so pasty and our eyes so baggy. We can’t wait to share with you all what we’ve been so busily doing over here at Wry Baby HQ! The theme of this year’s NYIGF is “New Rules”. Apparently we can’t agree more!

The product line-up from Wry Baby for the August NYIGF. Make new stuff much?

Ahh, Summer! When the Wry Baby clan’s attentions turn to Birthday celebrations. July is the month of our Boy and as is custom, his parties are always fraught with peril. Last was a birthday-crushing Robot Attack and this time, a smoke-belching Dragon came to ruin the fun! Luckily, the party-goers came fully armed!

The Dragon appears in the clearing! Blissfully unaware of it’s impending destruction.

As far as prep goes, these shenanigans involved a few things:  About 3-5 hours of time, a Bunch of Recycling-Bound Cardboard Boxes, Paint, Duct Tape, Masking Tape, a Smidgen of Imagination and the Willingness to Throw The Best Birthday Party EVAR. Seriously, that list seems long, but it’s really a piece of birthday cake to make this alternative to the hit-or-mis birthday pinata.

Partygoers come face-to-face with the Dragon’s fury!

The Dragon is vanquished and the hunt for Dragon Eggs begins!

Here are some detailed instructions: Gather your various cardboard boxes and tape them into the form of a Dragon with the duct tape. Cover the duct tape (for strength) with masking tape (for paintability) and then paint. When finished, it’s pretty tough to get into, and that’s where the beauty lies. We were so tired of typical pinata’s being so unpredictable. Either they fell apart instantly or were only accessible via chain-saw in the end. While durable, these cardboard creations succumb after about 5 rounds of 10 kids. We usually start the first round by giving everyone one whack each and then the next turn 2 whacks and so on from there. Oh, and for the sword, you can make one out of a stick or whatever. As long as it can eventually penetrate a cardboard box eventually, it’s great.
As with everything made by Wry Baby, there’s a lot of fun to be had in the extra credit! Our birthday Dragon happened to be filled with treat-filled Dragon Eggs!

Dragon Eggs discovered!

The Dragon Eggs, hidden away in the head, body and tail, are just a matter of some paper machéd balloons, some treats for inside and a couple more hours of your time and a little extra paint. All being well worth it when you watch the Slayers carry off their prizes to break open.
In the end, you’ve pulled off a super memorable birthday party AND got rid of a bunch of cardboard boxes you had laying around. Yay!
A post-distruction birthday photo opp!

The best thing about Summer is riding our bikes to Wry Baby HQ. It’s only two blocks from our home to Wry Baby’s front door, but it’s two blocks of birds, neighbors, sun and fun!
