We’re preparing for our big New York International Gift Fair and this graphic explains all: Why we haven’t been blogging or twittering much, Why we haven’t been playing properly with our playmates, why my drawing hand hurts so bad, why our complexions are so pasty and our eyes so baggy. We can’t wait to share with you all what we’ve been so busily doing over here at Wry Baby HQ! The theme of this year’s NYIGF is “New Rules”. Apparently we can’t agree more!

The product line-up from Wry Baby for the August NYIGF. Make new stuff much?

Ahh, Summer! When the Wry Baby clan’s attentions turn to Birthday celebrations. July is the month of our Boy and as is custom, his parties are always fraught with peril. Last was a birthday-crushing Robot Attack and this time, a smoke-belching Dragon came to ruin the fun! Luckily, the party-goers came fully armed!

The Dragon appears in the clearing! Blissfully unaware of it’s impending destruction.

As far as prep goes, these shenanigans involved a few things:  About 3-5 hours of time, a Bunch of Recycling-Bound Cardboard Boxes, Paint, Duct Tape, Masking Tape, a Smidgen of Imagination and the Willingness to Throw The Best Birthday Party EVAR. Seriously, that list seems long, but it’s really a piece of birthday cake to make this alternative to the hit-or-mis birthday pinata.

Partygoers come face-to-face with the Dragon’s fury!

The Dragon is vanquished and the hunt for Dragon Eggs begins!

Here are some detailed instructions: Gather your various cardboard boxes and tape them into the form of a Dragon with the duct tape. Cover the duct tape (for strength) with masking tape (for paintability) and then paint. When finished, it’s pretty tough to get into, and that’s where the beauty lies. We were so tired of typical pinata’s being so unpredictable. Either they fell apart instantly or were only accessible via chain-saw in the end. While durable, these cardboard creations succumb after about 5 rounds of 10 kids. We usually start the first round by giving everyone one whack each and then the next turn 2 whacks and so on from there. Oh, and for the sword, you can make one out of a stick or whatever. As long as it can eventually penetrate a cardboard box eventually, it’s great.
As with everything made by Wry Baby, there’s a lot of fun to be had in the extra credit! Our birthday Dragon happened to be filled with treat-filled Dragon Eggs!

Dragon Eggs discovered!

The Dragon Eggs, hidden away in the head, body and tail, are just a matter of some paper machéd balloons, some treats for inside and a couple more hours of your time and a little extra paint. All being well worth it when you watch the Slayers carry off their prizes to break open.
In the end, you’ve pulled off a super memorable birthday party AND got rid of a bunch of cardboard boxes you had laying around. Yay!
A post-distruction birthday photo opp!

The best thing about Summer is riding our bikes to Wry Baby HQ. It’s only two blocks from our home to Wry Baby’s front door, but it’s two blocks of birds, neighbors, sun and fun!

Looking for information on “Nursing Baby”? We were yesterday and to our delight/horror the first thing that popped up in the Google Image box was our very own Nursing Baby instructions from our book, Safe Baby Handling Tips. Then again, it IS a pretty helpful graphic.

Of course, you can also get this image on a Snapsuit. And you can even get it on sale for just $17 by clicking here.

Babies love contrast. They love rubbing their developing brains all over black and white shapes. So say the experts, but our little guy went NUTS when presented with even the simplest spiral. After seeing these animated gifs I finally know how he felt. Have fun staring at this stuff all day because you won’t be able to stop, no matter how much you want to.

See more really creative uses for the overlooked art of animated gifs at dvdp.

The New York International Gift Fair is finally over, the Wry Baby booth is tucked away into it’s spankin’ new, customized  rock-star Roadie case and we’re back in the saddle here at Wry Baby HQ. It was great to see all our fun store friends and show off all the new goods we launched. Seven new Snapsuits will be coming to a store near you this week! Once we get that squared away, we’ll share all the newness with you! For now, here’s some snaps of our time in NY! Enjoy!

Our new custom case for the Wry Baby booth. Believe it or not, we could have had a dressing room built into it. Along with a big screen TV. No joke.

The whole shebang, all lined up and ready to go. Check out the new POP! Coming to stores soon!

Our Pirate Hooded Towels and Pirate Washcloths were a big hit this show!

See anything new? Someday I’ll Have a Hairy Chest and Someday I’ll Demand a Pony are coming joining the Snapsuit lineup this Spring.

All done! Wry Baby Kelly did all the heavy lifting. Dave just showed up to pose in this photo. Loser!

We had a photoshoot a few weeks ago with all sorts of cute little babinskis. While working on the selects we came across this photo and it so captured what Wry Baby is all about that we had to share it with y’alls. Un-retouched joy and fun in our Super Snapsuit. It’s seeing stuff like this that convinces us we’re doing something worthwhile!

Can you picture some-little-one you know in a Super Snapsuit? You can fly over to wrybaby.com and capture yourself one for just $30!

And if you’re looking for a photographer who can really bring out the fun (in camera and from behind it) give a looky at Cole Rodger Photographics. She’s awesome.

It’s mid-January, which means it’s time for us to go nuts getting ready for the big New York International Gift Fair (Jan. 30-Feb. 4). We’ll have a ton of new fun stuff to launch (more Snapsuits™!). For weeks we’ve been designing our brains out. Below are some snaps we took of some sketches & doodles. Super rough, but that’s how we roll until final ink hits paper and paper hits scanner. Did you know all our designs are hand-drawn by Wry Baby artisans? True!

From an end-cap display of cakes at my local grocery store comes this last Christmas item. I don’t know whether it’s the clearly shocked look on Santa’s decapitated cakey head that’s so disturbing or if it’s just the whole darn concept. I should also add that it was REALLY heavy, which added to it’s grossness.
