Funny Baby Book Makes Lousy Child Psychology Book.

Our funny baby book, the best-selling Safe Baby Handling Tips crops up in the darndest places. A fan sent us this photo of our funny baby book filed in the Child Psychology section at a Borders Books in California. I suppose that our handling tips can be helpful in some way. For the tragically idiotic, perhaps.

Did you know an author (or his/her publisher) has no real control over where your book is filed in those big box bookstores? True. Our other funny baby book, (our hilarious take on the baby journal, The New Parents’ Fun Book) is permanently housed a few books away from Dr. Spock in the Child Development section at both Borders and Barnes and Noble. Not with the other baby journals at all. Weird, no?

The book was designed and illustrated by Dave Sopp, Wry Baby’s resident art guy. In fact, every bit of design and illustration produced by Wry Baby is from his hand. You can see how he did it here.
The couple in all the illustrations are Kelly and Dave, the authors and founders of Wry Baby.
The poor baby featured in the book isn’t their son, but a generic, made-up baby. Kelly and Dave’s son was a toddler when they illustrated the book.
The Wheel of Responsibility® was a last minute addition to the cover of Safe Baby Handling Tips. It was (and still is) a stand alone best-selling baby shower gift that has recently also become Wry Baby’s first iPhone App!
We hear a lot of stories from folks who experienced some doofus rookie parent moves similar to what we feature in the book. Like the gentleman who really did throw his child too high into the air…into a ceiling fan! His wife was quick to tell us that it was okay because the ceiling fan was off.
