After a thorough search of the package that arrived yesterday, an addtional note from Mysterio was found. We would have found it sooner, but we couldn’t get anyone here to touch the box after authorities removed the head to examine. The letter contains a dire warning that we sort of wish we found yesterday.

It is vital that you do not tell a soul of what you received this day and whatever you do, you MUST NOT publish the contents of this package on the intertube journal we share. ~ Mysterio

Thank you all for the letters and wishes you’ve sent to us regarding Mysterio being, well, missing. For those who don’t know, what began as a week long buying trip to buy cotton for Mysterio’s line of baby t-shirts has resulted in Mysterio’s disappearance. It’s been 3 weeks since his last post and international authorities are scouring the globe to locate him. We were assuming the worst until this morning when we received a very mysterious package from Mysterio himself!

Frankly, this clue to Mysterio’s whereabouts brings up more questions than it answers. Inside a rough, wood crate we found this VERY smelly shrunken head and a frantic note from Mysterio! Here’s what it says:

I do not have much time to explain. Keep the contents of this parcel in a moist towel until I return. But not one of those towelettes that come in those small foil packets as it will be too small and I do not like the perfumes they emit. A regular cloth towel will be best. I am in grave danger as I write. Jiibayaabooz is playing a mighty role in my tribulations and I must conserve all my powers if I am to survvie this ordeal! I must go!

The note is unsigned and local law enforcement has taken a sample of the head to test. We are not sure if this is Mysterio’s head as it’s not only slightly decomposed, but also extremely wrinkly. We will keep you updated on the unfolding Mysterio situation. Again, thank you for your support.

We don’t know if Christina Aguilera uses the Wheel of Responsibility, but the latest issue of InStyle Magazine (October 2009) proves that she’s got one! Not only does she HAVE one, she has it at the ready on her kitchen counter. InStyle did a whole thing on Christina Aguilera’s home (crazy retro cool) and one of our favorite shops in San Francisco, Wishbone, spotted our fun baby shower gift sittin’ pretty on the counter. Thanks ‘Boners! And thanks, Christina!

What’s REALLY weird is that none of our fun stores saw that on the back cover of InStyle’s October issue, Wry Baby Dave makes a guest appearance in the latest D&G ad. It’s like it’s the Wry Baby issue of InStyle! Sexy!

As a kid, I idolized Soupy Sales. Even though I grew up in the Seventies, I somehow was able to catch reruns of the late-’50’s/early ’60’s Soupy Sales Show on TV. So weird. So spontaneous. So…weird! I loved it, but what really hooked me was Soupy’s masterwork, the Soupy Sales Show LP.

Put out in 1961 on Reprise Records, it’s a snapshot of what his show was like in the beginning, before all the ’60’s era celebs (Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., etc.) thought it fun publicity to be hit in the face with pie on his show. The LP is, basically, a show in itself with music. Soupy gets a call from a record label who wants him to record an album. He agrees to do it, but doesn’t have any songs, much less a singing voice. But his puppet gang (White Fang, Black Tooth, Hippie the Hippo, Pookie the Lion) all come to his rescue offering songs from their songwriting club. The songs are not only hilarious, but catchy as all get out and are stylistically outrageous. Ranging from Rock ‘n’ Roll to a Cha-Cha-Cha to a tender ballad about the love between a boy and his…dog. The album was a huge hit.

As a kid, as well as now, my favorite bits were the songs about Soupy himself and no song sums up what made me love him more than “Pie In The Face“. In 1985, Soupy said he’d probably be remembered for the pies, and he was okay with that. But while this song is about his signature pie-in-the-face-bit, it explains WHY he loved getting hit with pies. Simply because it made people laugh. That was hugely inspirational to me and eventually became the basis for my doing what I do now with Wry Baby. It really is the greatest feeling of all to make people laugh.

When I was in elementary school we had to perform skits for a senior center in Orange County, CA. Each kid had to do a short bit for a crowded audience. I chose to lip sync to Soupy’s “Pie In The Face” (complete with two back-up dancers) and in the end get smacked with two big whipped cream pies. We had never rehearsed with real pies, though. You’d really be surprised how far all that whipped cream goes once it hits your face. I have to admit there weren’t many laughs at the end of THAT performance, but I still chuckle out loud whenever I think about it. Thanks so much, Soupy!
