Sunday is opening day at the New York International Gift Fair and we’re all ready. All our fun baby shower gifts, funny baby clothes and accessories are set for viewing and our new cool baby outfits are front and center for their big debut. It was a busy first day, but we managed to squeeze out some video of Wry Baby’s first day at the 2009 New York International Gift Fair.

We arrive early for set-up at the New York International Gift Fair because you never know what kind of damage control will be required. If everything goes ok, you get a free day before the show starts. Good news: Everything went ok! Wry Baby Dave gets to bop around the nooks and crannys of the Big Apple looking for the coolest, funnest stuff this major metro has to offer!

Hey from NY! While it took longer to get here from NC than from CA to set up for the NYIGF, we’re here, we’re set up and we’re rarin’ to go. Here’s a little video we made on the side to show what it’s like to go through setting up a booth. We left out most of the boring stuff (we hope), which means the video is wicked short. But it does contain a few pointers for those looking for some juicy trade show tips. Enjoy! And look for more throughout the show next week!

WRY BABY SETS UP AT THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL GIFT FAIR:

Hey, if you’re coming to the New York International Gift Fair this week (Jan. 25-29) at the Javits Center, stop by Wry Baby’s booth at 1740-1742 in the Just Kids Stuff section. Wry Baby Dave and Wry Baby Michael will be there to greet you and sign you up for Break-Down help!

And we’re outta here! At least, we would be if it weren’t for the 2 hour delay. But that’s okey-dokey. Our booth model for this show turned out ok (looks a lot like last years) and so I have some time to muse about what will happen at this year’s NYIGF. Something always does, after all. HGTV filmed us there for a Christmas feature once. We introduced ourselves (and our big-box capabilities) to Cost Plus World Market there, too, and now we’re totally doing stuff together! Heck, I once had to kick Urban Outfitters people out of our booth! it was quite a scene actually as we got into kind of an arguement. PASSION! Those guys are such copycats.

Wry Baby’s 2009 booth model. We wrote last year how we’re so OCD that we build a scale model of our NYIGF booth before every show. Complete with scale people with scale credit cards. Some even have scale diarrhea form all the scale trade show food.

My trade show buddy from across the aisle at the NYIGF, Leif at Kaloo, emailed with the rumor that the ELF ON A SHELF people, who have a booth at the NYIGF despite having just the one SKU, are launching a new product at this show. Leif is breathless. What could it be!? Having the time to ponder such things, here are some of our guesses:

• Monster Under the Bed.
• Cat in the Microwave.
• Fist in the Face.
• Sniper in the Bell Tower.
• Corcodile in the Sewer.
• Body in the Crawlspace.

Maybe you have some ideas? I’ll for sure find out if any of our guesses were right.

Our #1 employee made our first tv spot for us! It all starts out cute enough with an enthusiastic pitch for our fun baby gifts, but then it ends…well, abruptly. Check it out for yourself. Airing 24/7 on Wry Baby’s YouTube channel.

Hopefully, I’ll be adding more films made at the New York International Gift Show. We’ll see!

Okay, so we’re totally swamped getting ready to get to New York for the big New York International Gift Fair. The office is a mess, there’s product and comps and mock-ups flung everywhere and somehow I found the time to share it all with you via Flickr. That’s right, Wry Baby has a Flickr account and I hope to use it to show you all some of the behind the scenes shenanigans that we go through to bring you the fun baby gifts (and clothes and books and games and pillowcases and, you know what I’m talkin’ about). Anyway, for our first ever upload, I offer you the previously mentioned messy office, tagged with all kinds of notes and even offering a glimpse of what we’re bringing to the NYIGF this week. Have fun and I’ll try to post more as I go through the show.

It’s been a week of hot press leading up to the big New York International Gift Fair and the launching of Wry Baby’s new Spring line. Funny thing is, all the press is about the fun baby gifts we already made. The Insider picked up our Super Snapsuits, Super Cute(for girls) and I’m Super(for boys). The Celebrity Baby Blog tells us Tori Spelling, Salma Hayek, Liam Aaron McDermott and Valentina Paloma Pinault are all super fans of Wry Baby’s Super Snapsuits and The Insider picked it up. Whether you’re a super star baby or just hiding behind your secret identity for a bit, every baby deserves to be Super, don’t you think?
