This page from our hit baby journal, The New Parents’ Fun Book, is so unintentionally seasonally themed that we couldn’t help but share. The New Parents’ Fun Book baby journal has been really well received and pages like this are the reason. Instead of recording usual the boring line-up of relatives, why not group them by their “stand-out” personalities? Who is the funniest? Who tells the best stories? Who’s been arrested? You know your tree is full of these kinds of nuts!

Growing up in the O.C., doing a stint at The Art Center in Pasadena and finally enjoying a rich advertising career in San Francisco has made me no stranger to the most unpredictable of natural occurrences - earthquakes. Like everyone else in California waiting for “the Big One” to arrive, I learned to live not in constant terror (that would be exhausting!), but instead to laugh about the eventuality of this scary phenomenon. In the early 80’s there was a song by The Little Girls that pretty much sums up the attitude of those living in a place that’s marked for calamity. The Earthquake Song’s pretty dark, but it’s also super clever as all get out and, heck, it’s almost Halloween, right? So scary fits. While earthquakes themselves are terrifyingly un-funny (Wry Baby does not support them), this is a great example of the smiley face that Californians are so good at putting on, well, everything. Enjoy this rare video of The Little Girls performing the Earthquake Song.

You’ve got a new baby, therefore I know you have plenty of free time for complicated Halloween papercraft projects. Don’t thank me. I’ve also got some easy squeezy Halloweeny origami for you less dextrous, more harried Moms and Dads.
Papercraft Coffins courtesy of ravensblight.com. These look deceptively difficult because the graphics are so flippin’ outstanding. But we printed these out and built them no problem. And unlike the Revell model kits of our youth, these come out looking like advertised! Super fun for Halloween party favors and it’s FREE!
Halloweeny Origami from origami-club.com. For littler Halloweeners, and those suffering from an Elmers shortage, we offer this simpler craft. There are way more designs than I thought there would be and I was surprised at how many I remembered from my own childhood (the paper bat in particular). Super fun, super easy and super free. (Found via coochicoos.com)
Just a reminder that, for those fun parents on the East Coast, there’s still time to scoop up our comfy “Official Candy Taster” Halloween Outfit over at wrybaby.com. Not as free as the papercraft above, but close enough at just $14!

It’s a reality and you can do it TODAY! Just sit in a comfy chair, turn on your computing machine and point your internet browsing apparatus to this collection of Halloween make-up goodies from the late 1970’s. And WOOSH! You’re standing in the Halloween aisle surveying a sea of costume choices!
OMG. The hand drawn type and loosey goosey drawings of a designer who knows how lucky they are to be doing the packaging for kids Halloween accessories.
This is just a tiny sample of the amazing collection brought to us by the Tick Tock Toys Archive (via scarstuff.com). An incredible source of vintage packaging, cereal premiums and a jillion other gems from a time when companies knew how to have a relationship with their kid customers.
The guys who run the TIck Tock Toy Archive also wrote one of my favorite design books, KRAZY KIDS FOOD! It’s the bible of retro fun in food packaging through the ages and a must-have for anyone who designs fun for a living (like us).
Not to sound like an old Grandpa, but this is exactly what’s missing from the world of fun kids stuff. FUN! There was such a joy that went into packaging these cheap Halloween make-up kits that’s missing completely from the Halloween offerings of today. I mean, look at what you get now…
When did companies decide to suck the fun out of everything? The joy of Wry Baby has always been making fun from anything and everything. From the lowly burp cloth set to a Super Snapsuit you can wear every day, we try to pump some joie de vivre into whatever we touch. Because life is too short to do otherwise. Right?!

Wry Baby HQ has made the cover of this years phone book!
We were so excited until Kelly took a closer look and saw that Donald, our disastrous temp hire, happened to be working the day the photo was taken.
We had to fire Donald (you can read all about that ordeal here) but now we have all year to be reminded of his time with us. Bummer.

This seems like a no-brainer, but with all the hype around our planets grim environmental situation and the trend of going green, organic and eco-friendly, there’s a lot of people taking advantage of the situation by fuzzing the line between what’s organic and what’s not. I know, SURPRISE!, right? Did you know that a lot of what’s labeled as “organic” baby clothes out there is made with as little as 5% organic cotton? And to add insult ot injury it’s also printed with a plasitc based ink. Grody.
No cheating! All Wry Baby organic baby clothes are made from 100% organic yarns and thread and printed with water-based inks.
Long ago Kelly and I considered a jump into the organic baby realm. There was a soft rumbling of demand and when we looked into the manufacturing of organics, we found that prices were through the ozone-hole high! The only way to create a line of organic baby clothes was to cut corners in a big way and use an organic cotton blend. A very diluted cotton blend. We didn’t think there was any sense in doing that so we waited. And waited. And while prices surprisingly haven’t come down much, they came down enough that we could take a leap of faith (in our stores and our fans) and do the kind of organic baby clothes line that we always wanted to do. One that was, for lack of a better term, real.

Our factories organic certification document from the Control Union. Boring, I know, but it means business.
Our factory is SKAL certified. Our 100% organic cotton and threads are SKAL certified. And that means you’re not just getting the real deal, you’re getting the cream of the organic crop. SKAL (now called Control Union Certifications) is, from their site, “an international group of companies specializing in independent cargo surveying, super-intending and certification. Our international network of offices, laboratories and accredited agents enables us to offer a complete package in logistics, quality and quantity management from the country of origin to the final destination.” Which is a fancy way of saying they’re hard core when it comes to authenticating organics.
The SKAL website is as dry as an Al Gore speech, but if you’d like to learn more, you can visit them here. Oh, and just so’s you know, if you search for Wry Baby in the list of certified companies we won’t come up. We work with a factory that specializes in awesome, certified organic product. They make our product from harvest to container and they’re listed as certified.
As if you need more proof that we prefer the best when it comes to organic baby stuff, meet our teammate in organics, Bath By Bettijo. If you thought the requirements for organic baby clothes were tough, you should check out what you have to do to have an organic bath lotion line. But Bettijo’s a pro and her line of organic baby body wash and lotion are dee-lightfully natural and top notch. You can check out her story here. You can find our fun partnership in the form of our deluxe Organic Baby Gift Set here.
So in the end, if you’re looking for a great organic baby shower gift or you just want to turn your own son or daughter into a smelly hippie, you’ve come to the right place! Click here to make a difference and remember to raise funny people!
