Marisa Bardach over at babyzone.com put together a great little list of the top 10 little things that find their way into little noses. Crayons and fingers are expected, but french fries? It’s funny how much of it’s food related! And Wii remotes didn’t make the list at all. Weird.

Of course, nose stuffing is a popular baby pastime and we pay tribute in our New Parents’ Fun Book. Here’s a peeky bo-beeky at Hidden Treasures from Wry Baby’s New Parents’ Fun Book:

See more sneak peeks at the New Parents’ Fun Book here. From the authors of the best-selling Safe Baby Handling Tips, this unique baby journal is available now at wrybaby.com for the laughably low price of $12.95

I don’t get it. Looking at the list of Essential Baby Shower Gifts put together by Target and Parents Magazine (it’s in their Shower Registry section at target.com) they plainly list “Extra Nipples” as an essential baby shower gift. Yet after a quick search on target.com and an excited drive to every Target in the Charlotte area, I come up with ziltch. Why would they recommend something we’ve been making for years and then not stock them? Puzzling for sure. Perhaps even deceitful? But don’t fret. Wry Baby offers Extra Nipples here at wrybaby.com as well as in a bountiful number of hip boutique gift stores across the country. And next time you’re in Target, you might want to let them know of their mistake. Embarrassing!

Clearly confusing, no? But ultimately attainable at wrybaby.com for just $9. An essential add-on to whatever funny baby clothes you’re picking up for that upcoming baby shower. Wry Baby’s Extra Nipples are clean, easy to use and come in a pack of 4 so you can keep an extra set, say, in the car. For emergencies

Our good friends at spoonsisters.com (who carry an excellent assortment of Wry Baby’s funny baby clothes, BTW), sent in this photo of Edi the Wonder Doggie sporting one of our Super Snapsuits! You can tell Edi is a super pup, but now it’s bleepin’ obvious, isn’t it? Way to Raise Funny Doggies, Grace!

So cute! And sort of disturbing at the same time. You can find this version of Wry Baby’s Super Snapsuit at spoonsisters.com for just $30!

Mysterio Predicts the
Week of August 25, 2008

I see your child being carted off to a terrible place where children are forced to toil for most of the day before being sent home for a light snack, then dinner, only to return to work again and again and AGAIN! If your child is under the age of five, you will spend this week being insanely jealous of those kids parents.

Mysterio Predicts is a special guest and co-contributer to Raising Funny People – The Wry Baby Blog. Wry Baby, makers of funny baby clothes, unique baby shower gifts and fun gifts for new parents bring you Mysterio Predicts every Monday here at wrybaby.com/blog.

To learn more about Mysterio, or purchase Mysterio’s popular baby tee shirts featuring Mysterio’s predictions of your baby’s amazing future, visit Mysterio’s corner of Wry Baby at www.wrybaby.com/mysterio-predicts.aspx. You can write to Mysterio at mysterio@wrybaby.com but be aware that not only is he very busy with his predictions and may not reply right away, he is also kind of a jerk. All the great ones are.

Home sweet home. NY was a kick, but there’s nothing like being back home. Also, there’s nothing like 2 hours of cartoons on the plane, people. Thank goodness for JetBlue, right? With a fresh cup of coffee, some country ham and biscuits just minutes away and the sound of traffic and crazy people fading from our memories, let’s review some of the important things we learned from this years New York International Gift Fair.

  • People are optimistic about the economy – At least in the fourth quarter. The NY show was a busy one for us with both new and current stores from all across the nation. People were positive and determined and that’s great.
  • If you sit in the second row of a Broadway play, you can totally see how they tape the microphones to the actors hats, hair and heads - We were like, “What’s that!?”. And then we were like, “Duh, the mics.”
  • Organics are going to be big this year and will get bigger - Wry Baby’s new line of organic baby clothes were a hit for shizzle. That’s good news for all of us!
  • Never stay at the Park Central - That is, unless you’re auditioning for a German porno or something like that. We weren’t, BTW.
  • The Philly show from ‘83 was much busier that the Chicago show in ‘84 despite all that rain that caused a huge leak in the ceiling that show management claimed wasn’t their fault, but an “act of God” and so they weren’t responsible for damages despite the show carpet getting soaked which made the crates really late and I didn’t get out of there until 3am and I missed my flight - Thanks to knowledgeable and total show “lifer”, Lief for that tidbit.

JetBlue terminal at JFK, power stations and Wry Baby. A match made in heaven.

Home in the Queen City at last. I love this statue of Queen Charlotte. The linebacker that’s nailing her in the stomach has been removed for restoration.

It’s the last day of the New York International Gift Show and it’s time to say goodbye to all our cool baby stores, our hip gift stores and our fun show friends. We shed a wee tear as we wait for surly union guys to deliver the Wry Baby crates to our booth and we solemnly pack and tape gun as fast as we can so that we might beat said show friends out the door and to the nearest bar. The union Gods smiled on Wry Baby and we got our crates from storage relatively fast and we were outta there in about 5 hours. That’s actually a record time!

It’s twelve o’clock noon and suddenly the Javits is on fire with thr roar of tape guns! The race to finished is on! We’ve already cleared the back wall and now have to get the organics display broken down in case our storage crates come early. Notice that the carpet on the bottom right has already been removed.

It’s almost 1pm and, as you can see, we broke it down big time. It always amazes us how fast we can bust it down. But the promise of cold beer is a strong motivator.

Can you believe EVERYTHING fit into this compact pile of stuff!? I’m talkin’ about the whole booth’s worth of stuff! Seriously good packing.

It’s 5pm and we’re Audi. This is the last we see of the road show until the next NYIGF in late January. It’s always weird to give one last look before leaving knowing that when we do this next, we’ll have a new president, there will be snow instead of humidity and our beards will be totally shaven off. Speaking for myself, of course.

The best thing about going to the New York International Gift Fair is getting to see first hand how people react to what you’re putting out there. Since our stores do well with Wry Baby and have fun with it, it’s pretty easy to have a great time talking to whoever walks onto our bright red carpet (I totally blew a chance to take some pics of one of our favorite web stores, wishingfish.com). The worst part of the show is trying to survive the show itself! It’s fun, but pretty exhausting. And not just because you’re dealing with the crowds, but often your fellow vendor neighbors. Some are fun (like our awesome Channel Craft friends) and some are just, well, a nuisance. Check out this neighbor who seemed to like our booth better than his today!

Our neighbor in his natural environment.

Hmmm. This looks interesting.

Plenty to read in the Wry Baby booth!

After the show we took off to the South Street Seaport to take a water taxi to the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. So fun! It was just and hour and pretty non-cheesy. From there, a quick subway ride to see Mary Poppins on Broadway! Kelly scored us seats second row center and it was amazing. Can’t recommend it enough. I know, Disney on Broadway, but really, it was fantastic.

There was a great public art piece in progress involving waterfalls and the Brooklyn Bridge. We were all saddened to learn that our tour would not be pulling up directly underneath them.

More old friends, even more new friends and a lot more love for our new organic baby clothes! At this point the whole thing really becomes Groundhog Day for everyone. You know, almost the same exact day every day. It’s mixing up your precious off time after the show that saves your soul. Here are some highlights from today:

Our #1 Proud Parent Pin salesman takes a well deserved break at the Wry Baby Organics display.

Nothing clears the head after a busy show day like shopping! Tonight we visit the world’s greatest used book store, the Strand. Our good friends at Gibbs Smith publisher gave us this great bag today and it only seemed appropriate to use it at the Strand where we planned to spend most of our hard won lucre.

A little Vietnamese near Union Square and it’s off on the R back to get bach to our hotel and some Olymipics action. Gotta get some quality z’s before we have to get up to live the same exact day we’ve been living for the last three days!

Today was much busier that the first with lots of old friends coming by for re-orders and to check out the newness. Rockridge Home in Oakland, CA, Pop Deluxe from Wisconsin and many, many more. Super fun. It may only be day two of the big New York International Gift Fair, but our new organics line is doing great. The most loved is the gift set we put together with a Wry Baby organic snapsuit and the excellent organic body wash and lotion set from Bath by Bettijo.

Anothe piece of the new line of organic baby clothes from Wry Baby.
