Most people wouldn’t automatically connect the hip baby clothes business with extravagant living and there’s a really good reason for that. The numerous, ginormous trade shows that are hermetically sealed off from the outside world, hanging out in your cavernous distribution center, scolding errant vendors…Good times! And while that’s most of what happens in the life of Wry Baby (and any other business, right?), there are those few moments that really are pretty fabulous.
Wry Baby Dave and Wry Baby Michael took a break from showing off our new funny baby clothes to hit Santa Monica with fellow baby clothes designer, Lisa Malcic. Lisa is the genius behind the Beba Bean line of beautiful, high-end baby clothes and accessories. And what better way to shake off the smoggy confines of LA’s fashion district than to lunch at Ivy at the Shore. Nothing like a $15 Mint Julep and a $28 linguine plate to remind you why you do all that other stuff.
Mint Juleps and Wry Baby Michael’s favorite Ivy beverage, Planter’s Punch. Deeliciousness!
Oh, and I spotted this terrific piece of mechanical antiquity hanging on the wall of the Ivy. There was big band music being piped through the Ivy and every member of this automated band was playing along! I wish I had video of it, but you get the picture. I love stuff like this. You can see more of this type of thing at Musee Mechanique in our old home, San Francisco.
