Grab your camera and your kid and go find a smashed up car somewhere (wasn’t hard to do when we were in San Francisco). Then pose with it to make it look like you were the tiny, yet super-humanly responsible party! Pictures like these are sure to end any and all bullying that’s occurring at your child’s school and you’ll have a great conversation piece for your desk at the office. Where would you think the world’s smartest, funniest, bestest baby clothes and baby shower gifts come from? Not New York or San Francisco, friend-o, but the little town of Mooresville, North Carolina. Wry Baby relocated from the chilly fog of San Francisco to settle in the quaint town of Mooresville in 2006. We’ve been confusing locals with our metropolitan line of funny baby clothes and shower gifts from the old telegraph office above the best antique store in Mooresville, Ye Old Mantle. We’re across the street from the old train depot, so if you call Wry Baby around 2pm, you’ll hear the train roll along Main Street to pick up a load of milled flour from the Bay State Flour Mill.

Folks around here can’t figure out why we’d move Wry Baby from hip S.F. to the farmlands of Mooresville, but it was really a no-brainer. Mooresville is an idyllic town 20 minutes North of the Apple Stores, Dean & DeLuca’s and Trader Joe’s of Charlotte. The schools are incredible here and the whole town’s super kid-centric. It’s the perfect place to raise both kids and a baby clothing business. The only hard part is explaining to people that you make Super Snapsuits for a living.

Wry Baby Central – Home of the world’s funnest baby shower gifts.

Following the success of Safe Baby Handling Tips and Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips, we thought we’d go in a different direction and refresh a traditional baby gift that was in dire need of a face-lift. We’re super excited about the upcoming release of the new Wry Baby book, The New Parents’ Fun Book. It’s scheduled for an early June release (you can pre-order it now here), but we got our samples in early and we wanted to give you a peek at what we’ve been working on the past year here at Wry Baby.

The New Parents’ Fun Book is essentially a reinvention of the baby book. Only instead of jotting down just facts, it offers a fun way to record your baby’s statistics along with lots of information about what the parents were up to during baby’s first year. This is all done through 96 pages of games, puzzles, journal pages and crafts.

Here’s a peek at some of the pages from The New Parents’ Fun Book. We styled it after classic kid activity books from the late 50’s-early 60’s, which is pretty obvious from the intro spread. The Curseword Puzzle consists of words you won’t be able to fling around the house once Junior arrives, and the Daddy’s Favorite pages let Dad fill in his favorite bands, hobbies, movies and TV shows. You can see how the Fun Book will be a hoot to read 20 years from now.

Kelly and I were in Target last week and we discovered that Target totally stole our Someday I’ll Demand A Pony outfit design AND our Photo With Baby Sanpsuit! And what’s worse, they look terrible! Wait. Maybe I should feel good about that. What’s with the camera illustration? Cheap! They’ve released our designs under their private label called “Look Who’s Talking”. Wry Baby’s been selling the Someday I’ll Demand A Pony outfit and the Photo With Baby Sanpsuit for a couple of years and Someday I’ll Demand A Pony’s been a perennial best-seller at www.wrybaby.com. We always wondered when we’d get lifted by Target and now we have. I guess we’ve arrived?

My pal, the genius copywriter, Andrew Tonkin (see his work at www.wordsandrewtonkin.com), sent me these wonderful childrens records. While they are scratched up beyond belief, they are sure still pretty to look at. Not many people know that I do the art and design work for Wry Baby’s entire line of fun baby clothes and shower gifts. When I look at these records, I totally want to get into children’s music just so Wry Baby can make something like this. A set of these would be such a great baby gift. Even as wall art.

The illustrations are just fab. I can never figure out why modern kids stuff isn’t made like this anymore. It makes me want to get Wry Baby into the kids record biz.Not that there aren’t cool baby things out there now, but wouldn’t you totally buy this today? These records were released by The Record Guild of America in the late 40’s – early 50’s. They’re similar to super spendy Vogue picture discs that I’ve seen in used record stores. Andrew got these for a song (get it?) but they go for about $15 on ebay. I so wish Wry Baby made something like this today.

A couple of months ago, someone scanned our entire first book, Safe Baby Handling Tips, and posted it to the internets with the title Do’s and Don’ts with Babies. Next thing you know Wry Baby is #1 on Reddits Hot List. The bad news? The whoever originally posted it didn’t give us any credit or call out any info on Safe Baby Handling Tips. Now it’s Safe Baby Pregnancy TIps‘ turn on Reddit’s Hot List. Holy cats!

As of this posting, scenes from Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips are hovering at #41 and are titled Doing Pregnancy Wrong.
